Grapevine #12
July, 2008
Last week was NAIDOC week in Australia.
We spent NAIDOC week attending celebratory events along with local and visiting Indigenous Australians, government groups, community organizations and politicians. NAIDOC celebrations give Australia's Indigenous peoples the opportunity to share the richness of their culture and heritage with the wider Australian community.
Not so long ago, we celebrated Refugee Week with people from countries very far away, who were still unfamiliar with our sacred land and the cultures it has nurtured - some for many thousands of years. Working with and celebrating so many different world views is a gentle reminder that each person has their own unique journey and holds heartfelt intentions for the future. With each human connection we made we saw a message resound on each face and heard a sincere desire to contribute to a future born afresh with respect, integrity and love. From this sincerity arose a wish for our collective circumstances to become better together. The whole experience enriched our deep gratitude and respect for the generosity and wisdom of this beautiful country, and its original Custodians.
Whether your feet are just touching this land or whether they have been walking here for a long time, this is your home. We all found our way to this beautiful land and to each other for a reason. This is our opportunity to heal the illusion of separation with the truth of our inherent unity.
While the focus of this Grapevine is Australia, Celebrating Country means honouring the wisdom of Mother Earth and the uniqueness of each Country. Enjoy your journey and know that with each step you have the opportunity to co-create a present and future born afresh of respect, integrity and love.
There's a lot to celebrate. You can start now.
